On March 29, Venezuela’s Country Representative Pablo Hernandez hosted the first local meeting of the International Affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics in Venezuela. This event was made possible by the IAAND mini-grant for local meet-ups. The meeting took place at the Central University of Venezuela, the most important public university in Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela.

The convocation was a resounding success, with the participation of over 25 professionals from diverse backgrounds. Meeting and learning from each other’s professional experiences was truly enriching. The group comprised a diverse mix of nutrition students, researchers, professors, and nutritionist-dietitians with varied specializations including social media, sports nutrition, clinical nutrition, and public health. Their collective expertise made for an exciting and inspiring gathering of professionals.

During the meeting, there were several presentations and discussions on various topics related to nutrition and dietetics. One of the presentations was on the importance of incorporating traditional foods into the modern diet. The speaker emphasized that traditional foods are often more nutrient-dense and culturally significant. Another presentation focused on the role of social media in promoting healthy eating habits.

Attendees also had the opportunity to network and share their own experiences and expertise. Some participants discussed their research on the correlation between nutrition and mental health. In contrast, others shared their experiences working with athletes and sports teams.

The IAAND mini-grant for local meet-ups provided an excellent opportunity for nutrition and dietetics professionals in Venezuela to come together and share knowledge. The success of this event highlights the importance of professional development and networking opportunities for nutrition professionals in Venezuela and around the world.
